As thrilled as she was with her husband’s sales award, Betty was even more excited that the banquet gave her a reason to carry her elegant new bag. (She realized she was acting as shallow as a teenager, but day after day at home with the kids got SO old.) Now she just had to decide between playing it safe with one of her black evening gowns – the strapless body-hugging sheath or the dropped-waist halter dress with flowing skirt (either with elbow-length gloves, of course) – or standing out from the crowd in her new blush-pink silk shantung tea-length dress with 3/4 sleeves, nipped waist and very full skirt. With her pearl-gray ankle-strap heels – and her still-excellent ankles, even though she was approaching 28 – she knew she’d turn heads. But would Charlie like that?
“Pink it is!” she said aloud. This was a night to stand out.
