07/21/16 Betty Sue
Betty Sue didn’t care what her bossy older sister said about her sophisticated bright purse being inappropriate for a funeral. Who died and made Martha the fashion police, anyway? Her daddy loved bright colors, which was why he’d bought her the glorious bag for her last birthday, her 21st. Technically, it was from both parents, but Mother certainly wouldn’t have picked out such a frivolous thing. Betty had a proper black suit, a black hat with a little veil, white gloves and pearls all laid out and ready to wear, and she’d look every bit the lady her parents had raised her to be. If people disapproved of her wearing a flashy shoulder bag to her daddy’s funeral, they could kiss her rear end. Daddy would love it. And she was his girl.
