Clarice still could hardly wrap her mind around the war being over after all these years. She and Bob had been so lucky that his job was deemed necessary to the war effort and he didn’t have to go – but she’d spent many a night listening to his guilty conscience pillow talk, especially when his younger brother Bill got drafted. Thank God Bill came home. And thanks heaven Marilyn waited on him, and now they were getting married! Though still a bit wartime frugal – Clarice suspected that habit might die hard – she was glad she’d splurged on her gorgeous new Ingber purse for the wedding next week. It jazzed up her old evening suit just right. She couldn’t wait to dance the night away at the reception. And to have a sister-in-law! Life could be delicious from now on.
